There was a lot of news out of C2E2 this past weekend and one that slid under the radar was a casting confirmation for the upcoming North American release of Dragon Ball Z Resurrection F. While the film got an advance subtitled engagement earlier in the month, at C2E2 it was revealed that Chris Ayres will be returning to play the character of Frieza in it. The character has had a few different voice actors over the years. Originally played by Ryusei Nakao in Japan, the character was done by Eddie Frierson in the video games and then by Pauline Newstone in the OCean dub years ago. in the Blue Water dub of Dragon Ball GT, Frieza was played by Maureen Jones and then by Linda Young in the FUNimation dub of the series and subsequent games and other areas. The character was recast in Dragon Ball Z Kai with Chris Ayres taking on that role as well as in the newer games.
Based on the screenplay by original creator Akira Toriyama, the two hour film is directed by Tadayoshi Yamamuro with Toei Animation handling the production side of it.
FUNimation has picked up the North American rights to it with plans for a theatrical rollout over the next few months and Madman Entertainment has the Australian rights.
Plot concept: An Earth where peace has arrived. However, remnants of Frieza’s army Sorbet and Tagoma (from the Japanese word for ‘egg’) arrive on the planet. Their goal is to revive Frieza with the dragon balls. Their dastardly wish is granted, the “F” that plans its revenge against the Saiyans is revived…!
Just announced at @c2e2 : Chris Ayers returns at the voice of Frieza in Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’! #DBZRF
