Media Blasters is doing a bit of a refresh on their offerings on Hulu and that means a few shows are showing up as new on there. The first one to get the touch is that of Rio: Rainbow Gate, a series that utterly delighted some like ourselves while horribly offending others. Based on the pachinko games of the same name in Japan, the series was directed by Takao Kato based on scripts by Mayori Sekijima. It was animated by Xebec and originally aired in the winter 2011 season for thirteen episodes as well as having a bonus episode, all of which is available on the service. Those with Hulu Plus subscriptions can watch this show in HD on their TV, mobile and computer.
Plot concept: In an island casino called the Howard Resort, Rio Rollins Tachibana is a popular casino dealer with the ability to bring good luck to gamblers just by walking past them, earning her nickname “The Goddess of Victory”. Rio’s life soon changes when it is revealed that she is a “Gate Holder” a dealer who holds one of the 13 legendary cards called “Gates” Whoever collects them all will be named “Most Valuable Casino Dealer”. To collect all 13 Gates, Rio must take part in special matches with other Gate Holders; in the Gate Battles, she must gain the others’ Gates to become the most valuable casino dealer in the world.
