‘The Help’ Dominates Over Four New Films At Box Office

‘The Help’ Dominates Over Four New Films At Box Office The end of August is a difficult time to release a movie since they’re often considered films that can’t hold up against the big players during the early part of the summer, but you can often find some really good films that deserve to shine. This weekend saw the release of four new films nationwide and they all underperformed rather well, making the top two slots stay the same, just flipped from the week before. Rise of the Planet of the Apes has had some good legs and drops to the number two slot this week while the growing release for The Help jumps up to the number one spot. It’s also made a good bit of money during the week as well from the older crowd that can get out easily and likes to avoid the crowds. After that, it’s just a series of disappointments. Conan the Barbarian debuted at #4 with just $10 million to its name after some scathingly bad reviews by critics (the original in 1982 was generally poorly received as well). The latest from Robert Rodriguez with the 4th Spy Kids installment fared a bit better in the number three slot for just $12 million. Fright Night and One Day hit at the number five and number nine slots respectively with numbers under $10 million. It is, in general, a sad set of numbers that happens when you have a lot of college age kids heading back to campus or already there and a lot of schools in the south and midwest returning as well for the high school set.
