A week after the news of Bandai Entertainment shuttering its doors entirely come February, news has hit that Media Blasters is in the process of restructuring itself for survival. The company has laid off 60% of its work force but intends to try and turn many of them into freelancers or bring in new people in that freelance position to carry though. Media Blasters’ John Sirabella made statements about intending to keep to the releases planned and beyond by noting, accurately, that this is the process that many companies are now employing across the country not only in home video markets (where things are struggling in general) but elsewhere. The shift to freelancers eases a lot of costs that a company has when it comes to its employees. While it’s not the best news, it’s not an outright shutdown which certainly could have happened. You can find more discussion on this topic here and we wish those involved in these cuts the best of luck in where life takes them next.
