Technical:
This book has a wraparound cover with a couple of the girl characters on the front and one more on the back. The back cover has a difficult color background at the top where the synopsis is placed. Project-H did a decent job placing the text for the synopsis and making it legible because the background switches from dark to light and back again. Not an easy task for the typesetter. Beyond the standard back cover information like price and age group, it also labels this book as ‘Hentai/Manga/Romance’. While most of us are going to know it is hentai manga, I do like the romance label. I also like their website where they have the genre labels for each book and ‘Tags’ for the books describing the type of sex in the title, like Oral, Oppai, Nakadashi, Group, etc. The book is a big A5 size and the printing is solid throughout the book with good ink tones and straight pages on good paper.

Ryohzoh’s art is solid, especially for an ero title. The characters are well-proportioned and attractive and the male characters receive as much attention to detail as the females, which is nice because it nullifies the disjointed feeling some hentai manga have where the men receive a minimalistic approach. The girls are all very cute and were easy to tell apart. I really enjoyed how playful the girls are with their facial expressions during sex, with all the basis covered from surprised, to tearfully happy and orgasmic.

The adaptation reads well but purists will be disappointed that honorifics are not kept. I personally don’t mind either way and I can see why Project-H would choose this method in an attempt to reach a broader audience. Besides this, the dialogue reads well even if it gets complicated with hentai books because a lot of the dialogue boxes and are moans, groans and sex noises. Through much of the book the English SFX translations are smaller and alongside the original Japanese SFX.

Content:
This book has nine chapters spanning three slice of life stories. I enjoy these types of stories and having a three chapters per story gives the reader more of a chance to connect to the characters.

‘Mismatched’ is a story I often fantasized about finding when I was a college kid; Sugar Momma! Only Haguri is even more lucky because his girlfriend has money and is his age, not an older woman. Chigusa is cute and fun, especially considering she is a business woman during the day. I think that makes her cut loose even harder when she is off work and hanging out with Haguri. But not everything is fun and sex for Haguri, he does feel a little emasculated living off his girlfriend. But when an opportunity at a job means splitting up and moving away, will Haguri choose a job or love?

‘Ray’s Days’ follows Reiji as he lusts after his hot neighbor. Only problem is that she has a boyfriend named Akira. Well that and the fact that Reiji isn’t exactly a smooth talker. But one day, after breaking up with her boyfriend, she comes home drunk enough that Reiji manages to get her into bed with him. The sex is so great he’s convinced she’s the woman he wants to marry. Only problem is when Akira comes banging on the door the next morning. Reiji decides he’s going to be a man and open the door tell off Akira. But what’s he going to say when he opens the door and finds out that Akira is a girl? Try the threesome angle? This is porn after all!

‘Private Beat Eye’ is an interesting story about a private detective and the woman that loves him. I like this story a lot as it is a nice break from the more common schoolgirl or office lady storyline. Takuto is a private detective going through his ordinary life when a nineteen year old cutie comes waltzing into his office claiming she has a job for him. Serika sort of insinuates her way into his life and makes herself his employee more than actually hiring Takuto for anything. Takuto seems indifferent to most of it and goes along with her wishes since she can drive him around town in his car. He lost sight in one of his eyes and doesn’t feel comfortable driving anymore, so Serika quickly proves to be useful. But why is she so obsessed with being around him and helpful anyways? This starts a good premise for some romantic sex in this final story of ‘Ray’s Days’.

In Summary:
I really enjoyed the hot and creative sex in the ‘Ray’s Day’s’ story. This is a good hentai manga for both established ero fans and curious readers looking to try out this genre. ‘Ray’s Days’ sex scenes are fun and between characters that grow to love each other, so nothing too risqué. The panels during sex scenes are laid out well without too much overlap between panels like some hentai books. Although, there is the issue with the ‘white out’ censoring on the genitals.

American hentai fans used to buying Japanese imports probably aren’t going to be bothered too much by the censored art, but readers more used to Eros Comix and the defunct Icarus Publishing are going to be disappointed. All the releases from those publishers are uncensored, which meant that they had to either get the original uncensored art from the mangaka or ask them to redraw the censored art. It can be a lot of work and I’m guessing quite a bit more expensive to license. So for fans, it becomes a tradeoff between getting an English translated hentai book with censoring or getting a Japanese language hentai book with censoring that might be even more expensive because of import costs. To be fair, Project-H has been able to acquire some books without censoring and it is my understanding that those books are the titles listed as $19.95 instead of the more common censored titles at $17.95. I certainly don’t mind paying another $2 for uncensored material. And in the end, I’m just glad to get a lot of new hentai books in English because Icarus Publishing went out of business and Eros Comix doesn’t release much hentai.

‘Ray’s Days’ is a good book with nice art, vanilla sex, and surprisingly good stories. I look forward to seeing how Project-H moves forward; whether they begin releasing more uncensored titles, and if they branch out into some fantasy hentai books.
